Get your first look at the trailer for Rogue Pictures' forthcoming remake of John Carpenter's 1976 cult classic Assault on Precinct 13, thanks to our good buddies over at filmforce
Director Jean-Francois Richet directs from a script by James DeMonaco, based on Carpenter's original story. The cast includes Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, Maria Bello, John Leguizamo, Drea de Matteo, Ja Rule, Gabriel Byrne, and Brian Dennehy.
The flick is billed as an action-thriller set in the present day, in an about-to-be-closed police precinct building. During a snowy New Year's Eve, a most-wanted mobster, Nicholas Zambrano (Fishburne), is temporarily incarcerated at the doomed Precinct 13. Soon enough they receive renewed, unwanted attention from all sides of the law. As the sun sets and a long night begins, a motley crew of policemen and prisoners, reluctantly captained by cop Jake Roenick (Hawke), must band together to fight off a rogue gang that wants to extract Zambrano at any cost.
Not quite what happened in the original, but close. When asked about the remake, Carpenter recently said "I should take it as flattery I guess but it only reconfirms what I've said all along, Hollywood has no new ideas left!"
