Like many others, I wasn't that big a fan of House of a 1000 Corpses. Sure, it was a gory, fun romp - but for me it seemed to lack meat, not enough flesh to cover it's bare bones plot and too shy to go for full-on gore as compensation.
However, with the trailer (click here to view) looking mighty fine, hopes are a little higher for Rob Zombie's sequel of sorts, The Devil's Rejects. The first reviews are now coming in, and are full of high praise for this film that seems to be a hard little bastard of a horror flick that is not afraid to pull it's punches.
The film opens in the US on August 12th this year. Who wants to bet on it appearing here late-august at Frightfest 2005?
"I give Rob Zombie credit where its due - he has improved as a director. While the original movie suffered from hellacious mood and visual swings, Zombie is much more focused on what he wants to go. There is some great work in the Firefly assault sequence that gives it such a raw, documentary look. The camera is always so close to the action, making violence so visceral as to think that you've been splattered with grue." For the full review - visit www.aintitcool.com
"From start to finish this movie held my attention and didn’t let go. This movie isn’t so much a sequel as it is a finale to the saga of the Firefly family and it works on every level." For the full review - visit www.bloody-disgusting.com
