Angela Bettis is quickly becoming one of our favourite genre actresses of late (indeed, we even devoted our most recent Zombie Club to her with the two films May and Toolbox Murders - coming soon). May especially was a hit with all of us, so it's great news to hear that she is currently re-teaming with her May director, Lucky McKee, on a new project called Roman.
Fangoria (see here for the full news story) have revealed that the digital film is shooting in LA as we speak, although the twist is that Angela Bettis is directing McKee's script, whilst McKee is playing the title character of the film, who apparently sounds a little like May's more disturbed brother.
McKee - "It’s about a lonely guy who has nothing in his life except for looking out a window after work. He watches the same girl go by every day, but he never talks to her, until he meets her by chance. Unfortunately, he’s obsessed so much over her that things go horribly wrong."
Lucky McKee also has a lot of praise fo his first-time director - "(Bettis) has great insight into stories. She’s a complete natural at it; this is one of the purest representations of something I’ve written."
So, as well as being 'absolutely stunning' and a fantastic actress (is she horror's answer to Jodie Foster?), now Angela Bettis is becoming one of the few women genre directors, and we for one can't wait to see what her directorial debut turns out like.
It is hoped that Roman will receive a theatrical release towards the end of 2005. Lucky McKee's supernatural thriller The Woods is currently penciled in for a US Spetember release.
