After all the rumours of the last week, it has finally been confirmed by Variety that Nicole Kidman has agreed to star (the almost $16 million deal probably helped!) in Warner Bros.' Invasion, an apparent retake on the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
The new material (scripted by Dave Kajganich) is apparently significantly different from both the previous films and the Jack Finney source novel and features Kidman who will play Carol, a Washington, D.C. psychiatrist who discovers that aliens are invading Earth and altering human behavior. Carol soon finds herself fighting to protect her son, who may well hold the key to stopping the imminent invasion.
The film is being produced by Joel Silver, with Das Experiment's Oliver Hirschbiegel directing in his English-language debut. Shooting is scheduled to begin in October on location in and around Baltimore, Washington and New York.
The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers was made by Don Siegel in 1956. It was remade by Phillip Kaufman in 1978, and most recently by Abel Ferrara (known as Body Snatchers) in 1993.
