No, itís not a film about the foibles and follies of an unfunny UK heavy metal band, but Platinum and Miramax/Dimensionís adaptation of the Garth Ennis scripted comic book The Darkness. With half of the $28 million budget raised, Platinum have hired Danny and Oxide Pang (The Eye, Bangkok Dangerous) to direct the film, even thogh there is no script, production dates or anything else at the moment for this project.
The Darkness deals with a mafia hitman (Jackie Estacado) who discovers on his 21st birthday that he has inherited a formidable mystical force called the Darkness.
This power allows him to conjure demons, but soon Jackie discovers he is the only one (wouldn't you just know it) who can stop a supernatural power bent on enslaving humanity.
The comic was originally released under Top Cow Comics, who are producing the film as well as working with Majesco to make a videogame for roughly the same release time as the movie.
