Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is a breathtaking technical and visual achievement that was four years in the making.
As equally groundbreaking as its predecessor, it seamlessly combines 2-D and 3-D CG animation techniques to produce an action-packed, sci-fi fable of a solitary cyborg struggling to retain what's left of his humanity in a world where the human soul is gradually fading into obscurity.
GITS 2 (it's an unfortunate acronym) was also the first ever anime film to be nominated for the Cannes International Film Festival's highly prestigious Palme D'Or. The Deluxe DVD was released on 27th February 2006 from Manga and is at £19.99.
The DVD boasts a host of never before seen extras including a world exclusive English language dub voiced by the original American Ghost In The Shell cast and a bonus booklet featuring a foreword by Jonathan Clements (co-author of The Anime Encyclopedia).
