Who wants to write a script for John Carpenter then?

23rd Apr 04

Who wants to write a script for John Carpenter then? I'm taking a break from my script I'm writing for John Carpenter to inform you all about an amazing sounding scriptwriting competition, the winner of which has their story directed by JC. The creators of Creative Screenwriting magazine are joining forces with Carpenter himself in order to make the next JC film. If anyone is interested in this, they should be aware that the story must be in a similar vein to the themes and tone of Carpenter's films - just think taut stories, people in danger form forces of evil, terrifying finales and wicked endings. The winner gets a $500 option on the script against a six-figure purchase price with production bonuses. Deadline: June 1st, 2004.

More Information

What does this all men then? Is JC dried up? It may look that way, but the more optimistic out there believe that JC can push out another brilliant piece of work. We may not have seen his best yet. Then again, it is quite probable that we have indeed seen his best in the late 70's / early 80's, the like of which we may never see again.

One positive way of looking at this is that he's cool enough to be willing to let someone fresh have their script filmed by him - a seasoned and consummate professional. That would be a special thing, no mistake. If you could all excuse me now, I must get back to my script, cunningly entitled 'The Return of the Halloween Fog Thing'...

For a 62-year-old man, Hoskins really pulls out the stops and doesn't seem to mind getting in the thick of the action. Respect.
