Cronenberg to bring Dead Ringers to HBO
11th Nov 05
Eh? Quite how this one is going to work is anyone's guess, but it has just been confirmed that David Cronenberg is teaming with HBO to create a series adaptation of his 1988 film Dead Ringers.
Wesley Strick (Cape Fear and Doom) is writing the pilot script whilst Cronenberg is set to direct and executive produce along with Strick and Carol Baum.
Seeing as the original film features two identical twin gynecologists (both played by Jeremy Irons) slowly descending into insanity aftre both becoming romantically involved with the same woman, it's difficult really to see where the potential for a series comes from.
Hilarious weekly exploits of the Mantle twins and their tools for mutant-shaped women? Confusion in the waiting room about a case of mistaken identity? Guest vaginas of the week? The mind boggles...
More Information
Cronenberg is also currently attached to direct and produce London Fields, based on Martin Amis' 1991 novel of the same name about a promiscuous psychic troubled by disturbing premonitions.
