After being suitably impressed with Lucky McKee's May, we've been looking forward to this one for months, and thanks to Twitchfilm, we can now finally see the first footage of Lucky McKee's follow-up - The Woods. The film unfortunately is still mired in post-production hell with Sony now the owners of after a history of studio mergers and bankruptcies, and the word is that none of Sony's many imprints and distribution arms want to release McKee's film.
Originally planned for a September release from MGM, the film’s release was thrown into doubt when MGM was recently sold to Sony. Sony initially anticipated a wide release for September 16th last year, but then withdrew this date.
Seems to us, either Sony are not entirely convinced about the quality of the film, or that it's so mind-blowingly fresh, smart and intelligent that they don't have a clue what to do with it. The Woods is a psychological horror story starring Patricia Clarkson, Agnes Bruckner, Bruce Campbell, Lauren Birkell, Jane Gilchrist, Emma Campbell, Gordon Currie and Rachel Nichols.
A neglected teenager named Heather (Agnes Bruckner) is dropped off by her parents at a remote all-girls boarding school deep in the forest. Watched over by sinister headmistress Ms. Traverse (Patricia Clarkson) and her staff, Heather is tormented by her classmates and is desperate to go home.
But when students start disappearing and she begins to have horrifying visions, Heather realizes things at the school are not what they seem. She only knows there's something out there in the woods - and it won't be letting her leave any time soon.
