 Jeff Brookshire's Awaken the Dead aims high as it hopes to expand the parameters of indie horror much in the way Shaun of The Dead did. Awaken the Dead is a cleverly scripted zombie film about a rouge priest with a dark and violent past thrown into the middle of a government conspiracy that tests his convictions and his survival abilities. Filled with humor, edgy action and rock and roll sensibilities, this latest offering from Silver Strom Productions has great cult potential. The film stars Gary Douglas Kohn (Almost Famous), Lindsey Morris, Nate Witty, Michael Robert Nyman, Paul Dion Monte (Rocky Balboa), Big Will Harris (Be Cool) and a cast of hundreds. Christopher is a man of God with a violent past. Mary is an Assassin’s daughter hiding from her father and herself. Both are dead to the world. Fate brings them together as a government experiment transforms the world around them into a nightmare of the living dead. Rejoining humanity and embracing the power of their pasts may be their only hope of salvation. It's a journey into terror and self-discovery that involves a Jehovah's Witness (who picked the wrong door to knock on!), a mysterious Watcher in black, an ex-marine and his timid wife, two Asian schoolgirls and a mastermind in the shadows. Christopher and Mary must awaken the dead within themselves if they are to have a chance at life.
